I have a Canon Power Shot A20 Which has served it,s purpose for a number of years,It,s quite heavy and eats up the batteries alarmingly,But still a good camera.So after reading reviews on the the IXUS I went for it and it has (to my mind) lived up to all the good reviews it has recieved.

I own another canon camera powershot S2 IS which is 4 years old model that still takes much better and sharper photographs, I’ve to say that picture quality of this camera is not what i expected from Canon. I’m quite aware of basic photography and optics principle, so i was not expecting it to deliver razor sharp L series photographs. I bought this camera because another reviewer claimed that it has manual mode, but for the benefit of potentially buyers there are no AV, TV or Manual mode. Meaning you have to rely on automatic mode to take low light photographs and those are really terrible. Program mode has limited flexibility and only allows you to correct exposure, but does not give you option to change aperture or shutter speed.
Photos shows sign of bending if taken from let’s say 0.6 m distance, that’s awful. Who was expecting fish eye lens?
Auto focus is very slow and noisy, powershot S2 IS camera has much better algorithms to do auto focus.
AWB ( Automatic white balance ) does not always pickup the correct colour saturation for indoor photographs.
So in summary if don’t want to spend too much time on photoshop for correcting exposure, sharpness etc errors by automatic mode then I will not recommend this camera.

Although an older model in the ixus range this camera still performs to a high level for a point and shoot, the quality and resolution of the images is great. For this price couldn’t go wrong.

This camera would be great at twice the price. It’s small and fits in a shirt pocket and yet it produces wonderfully sharp images, correctly exposed in most difficult circumstances.
It has a host of features normally only found in more expensive cameras, such as image stabilisation. I won’t list all the features, just look at the specification, but this little gem has nearly everything you could want. Buy one, you won’t be disappointed. JCW

An excellent camera, have not used all the facilities yet but am very satisfied.
The feel of it is ‘quality’ and the viewfinder is ideal for those conditions when the sun is behind you and would blank out the screen on other cameras.
The menu is easy to use and so is the Movie facility.
Far better than the Pentax I had stolen on holiday!
